Here is our trip to Waterton Lakes and Glacier National Park.
We flew into Calgary. Calgary is only a couple hours north of waterton and the northern border on the USA. Since flight eat to west land late we stayed overnight in Calgary. To save a day’s car rental we stayed at the airport hotel.
The drive to waterton is plain as in plain. As the park gets close the mountains grow.
We stayed at the prince of whales hotel on the spot of land that overlooks the lake and the mountains.
Interestingly, it is not airconditioned so when we arrived it was rather warm. The staff warned us that we should keep the windows closed because the winds change during and willblow everything off the tables.
Glacier’s north entrance is about 45 min drive, including the border crossing.
Entering the park from the north allows us to make our first bad choice. Skipping many glacier section is a regret.
Entering from the north you pass the first photo opportunity very soon. The island in the lake.
The road climbs quickly and the vista emerge. Roadside parking is limited so don’t be surprise with people walking the street.
